The Steven K. Latimer Memorial Foundation was founded by Myra Latimer in honor of her son, Steven, who lost his life on October 2, 2011, due to a random act of violence.

Each year, The Foundation holds the SKL Memorial 5k ~ Families Against Violence run/walk to raise funds to provide educational scholarships to children in Rhode Island who have lost a parent, guardian or loved one due to an act of violence.  The funds raised also enables the Foundation to assist families in need during the holidays by providing food baskets, as well as support programs that are geared towards keeping the youth off of the streets, encouraging them to stay in school, make better life choices and empowering them to strive for greatness.

"Our hope is that the scholarships will provide our youth, who are the unsung survivors of violence, with learning experiences and opportunities that will allow them to consider education as a formidable option to achieve success and live a violence free lifestyle."~Myra Latimer
